Moving the Ark (2)

Last time we looked at the mistakes King David made in his failed attempt to move the Ark of the Covenant in 1 Chronicles 13.  This lesson focuses on his successful second attempt in 1 Chronicles 15. Both of these lessons have application to our lives and what we attempt for and with God. It would be most helpful for you to read the entire story in your Bible.

1. ‑David prepared a special place for the Ark (v. 15:1).
The Presence of God requires a special place in the life of the believer. David now recognized the importance of putting God first in his life. Instead of haphazardly bringing the Ark home, David now knew it must be done God’s way. How many people serve God in a careless manner, hoping that God will bless them anyway?

2. David instructed the people.
“No one may carry the Ark of God but the Levites, for the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever”.(v. 15:2). We like to preach a positive gospel but in the process we must not neglect the negative aspects. There are many “do nots” in the Bible which we must heed. David now instructed as God had commanded.

3. ‑The Levites sanctified themselves ceremonially (v. 14).
David reminded them (v. 13) that because of their failure to do so, God had interrupted the first attempt to bring the Ark home. This time they obeyed and were successful. Now look at what Peter tells Christians to do,
1 Pet. 3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you,

4. God helped them (v. 26).
Obedience brings the blessings of God. For us that means staying in our Bible to understand what God desires from and for us.
